Planning NISIC Housing Complex in Ahwaz, Iran:
Designed to accommodate 4,000 employees and their families in multistory apartments and single family houses, this complex also provides the community with kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools, shopping centers, retail shops, health centers, clinics, guest housing, administrative offices, club facilities, sports centers, and parks and recreation areas.
The concept was to create a distinct separation of the vehicular traffic from pedestrian traffic, thereby allowing kids to walk to school or parks and playgrounds without having to cross any streets. Pedestrians, too, can go shopping via underground passages that lead to the sports arena and commercial zones. Residents are encouraged to walk rather than use their vehicles for daily transportation.
